Behind the curve: Donald Glover raps

In case you didn’t already know, Donald Glover raps. He has three studio albums, in fact. His latest album dropped last year. Yeah, behind the curve – we know. It’s not too bad. Sometimes it comes off a bit strained. Almost too clever by half. You’ll also feel like you’ve heard the rhymes on another album with better instrumentals (Glover does produce the album himself… so we won’t harp on that too much). However, you can’t knock him for references to things like “Sufjan Stevens.” Here’s a taste:

On another note, if you’ve never seen Mystery Team, you should.

Fifty Dead Men Walking

What’s this? A movie review on a site that was once almost exclusively dedicated to movie reviews? Yup! Well, sort of…

Fifty Dead Men Walking is based on a true story, stars Ben Kingsley (hooray!), Jim Sturgess, and Rose McGowen. It mainly takes place in the late ’80s and centers around the IRA and British Police in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

If you’re up for an intense, morbid, depressing, edge-of-your-seat film, I’d recommend this one.

My new favorite Rebecca Black track

I mean, it is Friday…

(A little) Behind the Curve: The Experiment

Nothing to write home about,  but entertaining nonetheless. The Experiment (2010) stars heavy hitters Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker with a few B stars to accompany them. Essentially, The Experiment is the Stanford prison experiment on steroids.

The film builds and builds in suspense, which is when it’s at its best. Unfortunetely, even with two great actors and a great build, The Experiment flat lines and has a fairly underwhelming ending.

6/10

Behind the Curve: Noise

Noise (2007) stars Tim Robbins as a New Yorker that hates noise and decides to “do something about it.” It a quirky comedy that mocks it’s own characters when they become overly philosophical about what drives them to do what they do. It’s a fun little piece of film.

The cast also boasts Bridget MoynahanWilliam Hurt, and William Baldwin.

7.5/10

Behind the Curve: Eastbound & Down

Crude? Very. But equally hilarious. Danny McBride is hilarious, of course. To me, McBride is the antithesis of David Koechner, an actor I just can’t enjoy. So, two seasons of McBride nonsense — well, what more could you ask for.

Apparently, a third (and, most likely, final) season is in the works.
