I found it: a good Kanye West cover!

After hearing 30 Seconds to Mars’ cover of Kanye’s “Stronger” and then The Fray’s cover of “Heartless,” I was left confused and, well, very disappointed (not that I expected much from either of the previously mentioned bands). However, I did a little more searching – were there more covers I had been missing? Apparently, yes.
White Lies, a band that I am unfamiliar with and could be total crap other than this one song, have covered “Love Lockdown.” Honestly, it may be better (or at least more catchy) than the original – that might not be such a huge feat since “Love Lockdown” is one of 808′s weaker tracks. In any case, it’s a good cover.
I think it benefits from the fact that White Lies chose a coverable song — who the hell thinks they can cover “Stronger” through, well, whatever you call what 30 Seconds does.

“Love Lockdown”

I’ll obviously be keeping an ear open for more covers as, I’m sure, they emerge.

The Fray covers Kanye West?

I just wrote (see directly below this post) that Kanye’s “Stronger” has been covered by 30 Second to Mars. After sharing the post on Facebook, it was brought to my attention that The Fray has covered Kanye’s “Heartless.” What is going on? Do I like it? I mean, kind of. I like that Kanye is being covered, but he’s being covered by pretty shitty bands and both have shown that it’s a pretty difficult to translate Kanye’s work.

While The Fray’s cover isn’t nearly as awful as 30 Seconds to Mars, it’s not good.

Kanye is iconic, but these covers just suck.

30 Seconds to Mars covers Kanye West… and it’s awful

I’ve already posted this as a response to another post, but it’s just so good (or bad) that it cannot simply stay as a comment. 30 Seconds to Mars, which I always forget is a real band, has covered Kanye West’s “Stronger.” Ok. Now stop and think about that one… think about some of the lyrics (aka “you can be my black Kate Moss tonight” …) and slow them down A LOT. It’s honestly Richard Cheese material… you know what? Fuck it. Just listen to this (I promise, you won’t regret it):

New Kanye Video

Hype Williams directed the new Kanye video for “Amazing,” and I can’t remember the last time I saw such a huge production for a video.  It’s mostly shot on a helicopter in Hawaii for chrissake.  Epic stuff:

Knock You Down

“Knock You Down” by Keri Hilson ft. Kanye West and Ne-Yo has a recent music video (see below). The video is admittedly pretty poor. However, the song, as a whole, is pretty solid. “Knock You Down,” should be a Kanye song (add another Ye verse and it would be). It’s neo-Late Registration in essence. Am I wrong? Listen to the song (without the visual) and tell me I’m wrong.
