“Might Even Let Him Be Republican”
Watch the Throne
may have ruined hip hop albums for me. What rivals WTT? Please let me know…
Hip Gop (aka Michael Steele, once again, proves he’s an idiot)
Michael Steele, Chairman of the RNC, wants to take the RNC to some unexpected places. According to The New York Times,
“We want to convey that the modern-day G.O.P. looks like the conservative party that stands on principles,” Mr. Steele said. “But we want to apply them to urban-suburban hip-hop settings.”
And Mr. Steele, isn’t leaving anyone out, including, he joked, “one-armed midgets.”
Or, as the New York Daily puts it,
New GOP party chief Michael Steele is promising an “off the hook” public relations blitz into “urban-suburban hip-hop settings” in hopes of wooing Latinos and African-Americans.
Can you say “patronizing”?
Daily Kos has suggested that the GOP should see “if Poochie the Dog is available?” … I wonder.
Big Sean: Finally Famous – The Mixtape
Fairly recently, Big Sean joined the ranks of GOOD (Getting Out Our Dreams) Music – Kanye West’s record label, which features other artists such as John Legend, Consequence, Fonzworth Bentley, and Common.
I heard Big Sean for the first time on Kanye West’s Can’t Tell Me Nothing Mixtape, which featured his track “Get’cha Some.”* I was more than excited when I heard this track – Big Sean seems to be on the cusp of, or just past the cusp of, a truly unique sound. I’ll put it this way: Big Sean sounds like an incredible mix of dirty south flow, Kanye’s lyricism, and Lupe Fiasco’s delivery. It’s some pretty creative shit.
In November, Big Sean released the Finally Famous mixtape on the web. The mixtape features Kanye West, Mr. Bentley, DJ Mo Beatz, Big Shan, Pat Piff, Atone, and Mike Posner; even with all that collaborating, Big Sean’s mixtape is his own.
Some of my favorite tracks off Finally Famous include “You,” “Get’cha Some,” “A Million Dollars – Snippet,” “People Mover,” but the whole thing is pretty damn solid.
I’m truly very excited and enthusiastic about the future of this “new” hip hop artist and I can’t wait to see what he puts out next. What’s his debut album going to be like? I’m guessing something along the lines of “A Million Dollars” and “Get’cha Some.” If that’s the case, I think we’re going to have one hell of an album on our hands.
You can listen to the whole mixtape (for free) HERE.
